Brushing Your Way To The Perfect Foundation Finish

A question I'm asked a lot, is what brushes are best for creating the perfect foundation base. In this Blog Post, I wanted to share my absolute favourite Foundation Brushes, the products I like to use each one with, and what finish they give to the skin. These trusty tools have become indispensable in my makeup routine, each with its unique way of creating a flawless finish. So let's dive into my makeup bag and discover how they work their magic to help me achieve that perfect foundation look.

Aaaahhh my love for this brush is evident across my Instagram page, starring in most of my Videos and Reels. I simply adore this brush & would never be without one in my makeup bag.

This is a Flat Head Kabuki style brush with densely packed bristles, which ensure a flawless, full coverage, airbrush-like finish to the skin. I use this brush in stippling motions, gently pressing foundation into the skin with each pat. Building coverage is easily achieved with this brush and it creates a beautiful finish every time.

Some foundations I like to use with this brush are NARS Light Reflecting Foundation, IT Cosmetics CC Cream, Sculpted Second Skin and typically any foundation that I want full coverage from.

Another absolute gem of a brush, the F41 is always within my reach. It also has densely packed bristles but tapers into a point, allowing it to give precise control & blending around the contours of the face, such as the nose, eyes & jawline. It can also be used to build coverage using it's flat sides pressed onto the skin in tapping motions. I use this brush with not only foundations, but also any cream or liquid product from BB Creams, Tinted Moisturisers, blusher to bronzer. This is also a great brush to use for applying moisturisers or face oils. It's such a brilliant multi-purpose tool and I love it! I have many of these brushes in my personal & professional makeup kit. It's available in a travel size too in various metallic colours & it's just so stinking cute in that size!!

I love to use this brush with any liquid or cream product but in particular, I like to use it with Sculpted Hydra Tint, Danessa Myricks Vision Cream Cover mixed with Danessa Myricks Beauty Oil, I also like to apply my serums with it too.

With their beautiful mint green matte handles & brushed gold ferrules this brand oozes luxury, yet at extremely affordable prices.

The Jane Brush is simply stunning. In my opinion, it's the perfect all-rounder brush as it's duo fibre bristles can be used for both liquids & powders. It's perfect for applying light little layers of product ensuring you have control to build up a soft, natural finish on the skin. It quickly & evenly dispenses foundation over the face in seconds which makes it a must have in my makeup bag and also one my clients love & refer to as the 'soft fluffy green one'!

I love to use this brush with most foundations & skin tints. In particular I feel it applies NARS Sheer Glow Foundation to the skin beautifully and allows just the right amount of product to evenly cover the skin leaving a healthy, glowing finish.

- Also referred to as a Beauty Blender.

I couldn't not include a Beauty Blender and the one I've used since day one is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.

This beautiful little egg shaped sponge is a great tool to have in your makeup kit and so handy to pop into your hand bag for touch-ups on days/nights out. The Beauty Blender is designed to be used damp. (yes Marguerite (my bestie) DAMP, NOT dry as a bone!!) This is so important as it will determine the finish on the skin.

ree

I soak it under running water, making sure it's completely dampened. I squeeze out any excess water then squeeze it out again on a clean towel and it's ready to use. This beautiful little sponge blends all cream & liquid products seamlessly into the skin. The unique texture & dampness helps prevent streaks, giving an even, airbrushed finish to the skin and makes it the perfect tool for softening out any creasing. The sponge can also be used with loose or pressed powder to set the skin. The Beauty Blender is a staple in many routines for its ability to achieve a natural, radiant look.

When using the sponge I like to place my product onto a makeup palette, tap the sponge in and in a patting or dabbing motion, lightly bounce the product into my skin. It's perfect for a quick, effortless application.

I really hope this Blog Post was useful to you & gives you a good idea of the brushes and their uses. I share lots of content using each one over on my Instagram page if you'd like to see them in action.

As always, thank you so much for taking the time to read my Blog Post, I really appreciate it and love interacting with everyone here & over on Instagram. If you have any questions on anything you've read here, please send me a comment or message & I'll get back to you.

Love,
